VALUE has many features and benefits. Aside from serving a societal need, the program is established to address a wide variety of issues. The program will include:
Needs Assessment
Upon intake our clients will complete a needs assessment worksheet. This worksheet will identify whether or not the client has a need for medication, transportation to court appointments, and/or other considerations to be addressed to help aid in the client’s ability to complete the VALUE program. This assessment will also help identify those applicants that are outside the scope of our program.
Education
Education is instrumental to the transformation of anyone’s life. Our goal is to inspire our clients to pursue higher learning. An assessment will be conducted to identify individuals who need help with basic reading, writing, and math. Clients that test lower than a 9th grade level will be required to participate in our in-house tutorial program. Those who score above the minimum requirements will be able to engage in independent study with scheduled tutorial times.
Goal Setting
Goal setting will encourage our clients to learn and set high standards for themselves. We will require each client to write the goals they have for themselves while in the program, upon completion, and six months after completion of the program.
Financial Planing
To increase the financial success of our clients, we will include a financial literacy component to our program.
Educators will address aspects of a monthly budget, savings plan and debt/credit management.
Job Training
We will provide transportation and support to clients interested in attending job training workshops in Orange County. For clients who express interest and demonstrate aptitude, VALUE will provide Computer skills, software training, web design and IT development education.
Nutrition
Our minds and body function more effectively with proper nutrition. We will provide balanced meals for our clients and also provide classes on nutrition.
Family Counseling
Often, homeless veterans do not have family support. Our goal is to strengthen their support system through family counseling.
Parenting
Parenting classes will be offered to encourage a stronger relationship between our clients and their children. These classes will give our clients the necessary tools to interact will their children in a productive and positive manner.
Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) Meetings
AA over time has proven to be a fantastic support group for people battling alcoholism. We will conduct in house AA meetings. Clients will be encouraged to attend meetings outside the program to establish another support network.

The Program
Benefits for Veterans
Features/Benefits
Department of Veterans Affairs:
Service-Connected Disability Compensation
Disability compensation is a monetary benefit paid to veterans who are considered disabled due to physical and/or psychological injuries incurred while in the military. Since type and severity of injuries may vary amongst individuals, each case is handled on a case-by-case basis. As such, monthly amounts of compensation vary due to the percentage amount awarded to veterans who rate a disability rating.
V.A. Health Care
The Department of Veterans Affairs offers health care services for veterans and in some cases, at no charge. Stipulations such as service-connected disability percentages and type(s) of disability may warrant free medical coverage.
Montgomery G.I. Bill
The Montgomery G.I. Bill is the exclusive V.A. educational benefit for military personnel. Please note that the Montgomery G.I. Bill is not limited to college/university training. This benefit may also be applied towards apprenticeship/on- the-job-training, vocational flight training, and/or licensing/certification courses.
Vocational Rehabilitation/Ch. 3
Although similar to the Montgomery G.I. Bill, Vocational Rehabilitation is an education/training program covering all tuition, expenses, fees, and materials. Veterans must have a service-connected disability rating of at least 20% (although those with 10% may also qualify).
The “Kicker”
This benefit automatically increases the monthly stipend of a
veteran’s G.I. Bill (Ch. 30) amount by up to $150.00. However, this benefit requires a financial contribution that must be made while the veteran is on active duty.
V.A. Work/Study
Veterans attending school at least 3/4 – time and collecting either the
Montgomery G.I. Bill or Vocational Rehabilitation/Ch. 31 may qualify
for a tax-free part-time job working for the Dept. of Veterans Affairs
and adjoining agencies. There are many benefits and services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs that veterans are entitled to. In addition, there are several other agencies that provide benefits that may be used alongside those provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Such agencies include individual State Departments of Military and Veterans Affairs, State Employment Development Departments, and state education financial aid programs.
For those personnel transitioning from the military to civilian life, understanding the various benefits and programs available to veterans may be confusing and just plain frustrating.
Therefore, it is important to understand not only what is currently available, but also how each works both independently and collectively. Below are a few benefits currently available, organized
by the providing organization.
Once a plan of action is scheduled for each client, we will move into to motivation and monitoring phase. Motivation will be a major part of our program. We will bring motivational speakers and create activities to increase the motivation to live a productive life. Periodic drug testing will be conducted at random and after each unsupervised scheduled assignment or activity away from our facility to ensure the safety of our staff and other clients. Drug testing will also be conducted to hold our clients accountable and ensure the integrity of our program. Weekly one-on-one counseling sessions with our clients’ assigned counselor will help identify the productivity of the client, and also give a check point to track progress.
